Exciting news for sustainable energy enthusiasts: Beginning January of 2012, federal law will require that all light bulbs must be 30% more efficient than the incandescent bulbs used by many consumers today. Goodbye, electricity-hogging dinosaurs!
While this still leaves Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) in the game, it also paves the way for LED light bulbs to become more accessible. As lighting giants are forced to explore energy-efficient solutions, LED technology will grow; and as technology expands, their prices will drop. In turn, smaller mom-and-pop operations will be able to sell LED lights at affordable prices.
I don’t know about you, but I’m excited about the idea of government legislation that actually helps the environment and local communities!
